The Society of Pediatric Echocardiography (SOPE) was formed in 1975 as a mechanism to provide interaction and collaboration among Pediatric Cardiologists, Fellows, and Sonographers with a specific interest in the practice of Echocardiography.
The Society of Pediatric Echocardiography has promoted efforts to expand and develop the practice and application of echocardiography in the pediatric patient. The Society has developed guidelines and standards for the nomenclature of
cardiac septa, guidelines for physician training in pediatric and fetal echocardiography and recently transesophageal echocardiography.
In collaboration with the American Society of Echocardiography, the American Heart Association
and the American College of Cardiology, SOPE assists in the establishment and promotion of universal standards for the nomenclature and orientation of two-dimensional, transesophageal, contrast and fetal echocardiography.
SOPE Board of Directors
The SOPE Board of Directors is comprised of physician and sonographer representatives who provide voluntary service to the society. Their service assists the society to promote the advancement of education and communication among professionals working in cardiology or performing pediatric echocardiography.
Attention Members
Dear Colleagues,
On behalf of the Executive Board of the Society of Pediatric Echocardiography (SOPE), I would like to bring you up to date on what is happening in the organization.
As many of you know, SOPE has served a somewhat unique purpose over the years, providing an opportunity for cardiologists, sonographers, and trainees to meet and interact in a relaxed setting for the exchange of ideas and networking. We have benefitted from excellent presentations over the past few years on topics including 3-D echo, Doppler Tissue Imaging, Strain and Strain Rate, Contrast echocardiography, the Hybrid Procedure, and others.
